Retrospective coverage published by GuideInThailand on 17 August 2026. The festival dates below describe the 2026 programme and should not be treated as future scheduling.
Ubon Ratchathani’s Candle Procession marked its 125th-anniversary edition with a programme centered on Buddhist Lent, temple-community craftsmanship and large public displays.
The 2026 programme
TAT’s 22 July announcement placed the wider event at Thung Si Mueang from 25–31 July, with principal activities from 28–30 July. Forty-seven candle works were announced across showcase and competition categories, with processions, dance troupes and evening light-and-sound presentations.
Why this matters beyond one event
The procession is not simply a parade decoration. Candle offering is connected to Buddhist Lent, while carving and moulded-wax work represents knowledge maintained by temples, craftspeople, schools and local communities.
For future visitors
Do not assume the next edition will repeat the same dates, viewing points or programme. Watch official Ubon Ratchathani and TAT channels, reserve transport early and approach temple activity as religious participation rather than a staged photo opportunity.
