Krabi is a province, not a single resort strip. Ao Nang, Railay, Krabi Town, Koh Lanta and the offshore islands create very different trips. Decide whether the priority is easy excursions, dramatic scenery, local town life or a quieter island stay.

Choosing a base

Ao Nang offers the simplest concentration of accommodation, dining and boat connections. Railay is reached by boat and feels more secluded, but luggage and weather require planning. Krabi Town provides markets and local urban life away from the main beach strip. Koh Lanta suits a slower stay rather than a quick add-on.

Boat days need flexibility

Routes depend on sea state, season, park rules and operator decisions. Avoid building a non-refundable trip around one exact island day. Ask what the fare includes, where transfers occur, what safety equipment is carried and what happens if conditions change.

Water and cliff safety

Follow flags and local instructions, protect against sun exposure and carry sufficient water. Rock climbing should use a reputable operator and suitable equipment. Do not enter caves, trails or marine areas outside authorized access.

Reduce crowd pressure

Famous viewpoints and islands can become busy. Consider an early start, a smaller route or a land-based alternative. Never stand on coral or remove marine life, and take rubbish back when facilities are limited.

A balanced first visit

  • A local orientation day around your base.
  • One weather-confirmed boat or Railay day.
  • One inland, town or nature day.
  • A buffer for weather or simple beach time.
