Checked 17 August 2026. Most trips to Thailand are straightforward, but knowing whom to call—and preserving the facts of an incident—can make a difficult situation easier to manage.

Numbers to save

  • 1155 — Tourist Police: visitor assistance, coordination and multilingual support.

  • 199 — Fire and rescue: fire, accident and rescue emergencies.
  • 1178 — Immigration Police: immigration-related contact listed by the Tourist Police.

Availability and language support can vary by channel and location. For an immediate threat, move to a safer public place if possible and use the relevant emergency number.

What to say

Give your name, a callback number, your location, what happened, whether anyone is injured and whether the danger is continuing. A nearby landmark, hotel name, station exit, road sign or map pin may be more useful than an unfamiliar street pronunciation.

After theft, fraud or loss

Preserve receipts, booking messages, transaction records, vehicle details and screenshots. Ask the relevant authority or operator for a written report or reference number. Contact your bank quickly if a payment card or account is at risk, and your embassy or consulate if a passport is lost.

Booking and payment precautions

Verify the exact business and domain before transferring money. Be wary of pressure to pay outside a booking platform, sudden account-number changes and deals that depend on immediate payment. The Tourist Police Trust Portal provides tools for checking participating accommodation information and reporting suspicious activity, but travelers should still review terms and use secure payment methods.

Road, water and nightlife decisions

Wear a helmet on motorcycles, do not drive without the correct licence and insurance, and do not assume travel insurance covers every vehicle or activity. For boats and adventure activities, check weather, operator instructions, flotation equipment and return arrangements. Keep drinks in sight and avoid escalating disputes.
